Community Updates n. 3


1. the sally ann runs a Christmas program for lico (low income cut off) families who need some help during the holidays. If you need help call 403-410-1158  ~ if you or your organization is interested in volunteering, donating, or ‘adopting’ a family for Christmas call Jeff at 403-220-0432 ext. 224

2. Lenscrafters is offering free eye exams and glasses for folks who need ‘em. November 7th 2010 at the Marlborough Mall Lenscrafters from 8-11 am

3. the Aboriginal Friendship Centre of Calgary is launching a new newsletter for youth called “ the buffalo eye” anyone 10 – 24 can submit. E-mail Lawrence for info lgervais@afccalgary.org -  Another Aboriginal youth magazine in Calgary – New Tribe has been in circulation for years, and continues to accept submissions from youth as well. 4. For those of you who haven’t heard, <eetup is a NYC based initiative that helps people connect with individuals and groups in their community with similar interests and values. Popular groups in Calgary include: community development, dating, reading, films, and outdoor activities. Check it out.

5. Looking for something to do? Maybe you need a space for your next event? Or a market for your fundraiser, Calgary Community Events has a free listing board for community groups where you can find or post news, and links to book community halls and other cheap buildings. http://www.calgaryarea.com/

Community Updates no. 002

1. Quickdraw is rocking another of it's Aboriginal Youth Animation Projects. Final deadline to apply is nov. 5. Contact the team leader for info 403-261-5767.

5. Join us at Arusha's monthly Potluck/Market at the Hillhurst/Sunnyside Community Association on the Second Wednesday of every month 6:00 PM. These pot-lucks are an extention of the Calgary Dollars Project:

community update no 1.

The Aboriginal Friendship Centre of Calgary mails out updates regarding events and community issues to it's members. to get the word out or to become a member e-mail info@afccalgary.org

October 26 there is a Free Rad Show (music for snazzers that have accessibility barriers & their pals) these shows, the brain children of local run-about Ian Gordon, are held especially for encouraging folks who don't go to shows like kyds in group homes, and folks with disabilities, to get into some new music & community. Tell your pals. At Cantos 134 11th ave SE 6:30-9:30 pm

Albertans Advocating for Change Together (AACT) a self advocacy group for folks with disabilities and their allies met this Friday in Red Deer, they're working on lots of important issues & we can't wait to hear what we can do to help support them... http://sasummit.com/

Calgary Arts Authority is working on research to find out the needs of artists in our city. Help them out & have your voice heard: Calgary Arts Development
